When designing a website for conversions there are some basic principles we need to take in to account. We cover generating targetted traffic using longtail keywords and seo on our Search Engine Optimisation pages which you may also find useful.
When a visitor lands on your website we need to look at converting them from a visitor to a customer. Remember that with a correcly optimised website the visitor could land on any page of your website and not neccessarly the home page.
This changes from busingess to business. The obvious is that the visitor buys something on your website. This is great from all the online shops but what if you are a solicitor or a plumber and you cannot physically sell something online? This is where a carefully crafted ‘Call to Action’ will be a key to your success.
A visitor will expect to see information relating to thier search phrase (assuming they came from a search engine). If they typed in ‘Internet Marketing Packages’ then they expect to enter your website directly on to a page that discusses your internet marketing packages. If the information is not on the landing page it should be very obvious where to click to get further information.
You need to ensure that you write your content for the reader. Try explaining the main facts / features of your product or services to them first. They found you as they already have a need for your product or services, you need to make them want your product or service.
Introduce them to your product / service and explain what it is, and what is can do for them. Then tell them how it will benefit them. Once you have done this you can then add your call to action.
A call to action on a website is where you are telling your visitor what you want them to do next. If you had just read about a ‘Web Design Package’ I would want you to make contact and open the lines of communication. If I was selling Design Packages directly from my website, my Call to Action would be for you to add the package to a shopping basket and continue to the checkout.
Make your Call to Action obvious like ‘Contact Me Today‘ to maximise your visitor conversion rate on your website.
